fantastic limited reissue of one of the holy grails of the balearic scene. recorded in 1981 by guy cuevas, a cuban-born dj living in paris, every track is a killer. side a features the full seven minute 12inch version of ebony games an epic latin-tinged disco-funk floor-filler and for most the stand-out track, but side b’s mesmerising dubbed-out everywhere is my home and the sweet slo-mo groover inside my mind are also brilliant. excellent stuff!

according to ancient mythology, the woodland nymph echo was fascinated by the handsome narcissus, and wished to lure him into marriage. unable to say anything on her own, her voice could only repeat the last words said, and this act was not enough for the arrogant narcissus. heartbroken, echo fled deep into the forest, her body turning to mountain stone. her soul is often considered to be the faint reverberation of the wind, still calling out for her lost love. a song for echos central character embarks on a spiritual journey through earth and water, attempting to discover herself and her relationship to the elements before nightfall. ricardo donosos score really heightens the interplay between the attraction and repulsion of the doomed lovers and makes for an all-consuming, disorienting immersion.

one of las smartest young voices says the la times…which the artist suspects, may just be a covert way of saying la is dumb. “open” mike eagle wouldnt terribly mind, being born and raised in chicago where the painful winters and his uppity grandparents kept him inside as a youth. he spent his formative years watching alternative music happen on mtv and hoping to one day be able to audition for the native tongues. as a young adult after graduating with a degree in psychology, he did the next best thing and moved to los angeles, joining the project blowed collective where he made music and toured with busdriver, aceyalone, abstract, nocando, and more. he has also gained notoriety in the world of comedy by being invited by professional funny people (paul f. tompkins, hannibal buress, matt besser/ucb) to rap at their shows. he would like to be raps kurt vonnegut but recognizes that he would first have to create something as iconic as the four-stroke illustration of an anus. he practices by releasing rap albums that delight, entertain, and confuse.
